Job Opening: Social Media Missionary?

May 17, 2011

Social media is here to stay and with it, comes an abundance of job titles for people who hold the responsibility for this in their organizations. In addition to providing these services internally for EHL, I have started to offer coaching to our clients in regards to website design and social media, so I Googled “social media job titles” to see if I could get any ideas on what to call my “service”.
social media
Here are just a few of the typical and in some cases hilarious, titles I found:
  • Blogger-in-Chief
  • Brand Champion
  • Client Engagement Manager
  • Community Manager
  • Content Strategist
  • Conversation Manager
  • Director of Integrated Media
  • Digital Marketing Manager
  • Idea Inventor
  • Internet Media Associate
  • New Media Coordinator
  • Product Evangelist
  • Social Media Activist
  • Social Media Evangelist
  • Social Media Missionary
  • Social Media Optimizer
  • Social Media Rockstar
  • Social Networks Designer
  • Virtual World Developer
I am not looking (or needing) a new title for my job. I am happy with Business Development Coordinator as it tells what I do and is open enough to incorporate all the hats I wear for EHL.

How many of you have a social media expert in your business? Does your company have a LinkedIn Company page or a Facebook page?

Lying, Temper Tantrums, and the Economy

May 11, 2011

My daughter said something to me not that long ago that really rang true in all aspects of life. My daughter and my wife were having a discussion when my daughter suddenly said, “mom you lied to me” to which I responded like you have never told a lie. My daughter looked over at me with a wry smile on her face and asked “when have I lied”, to which I said the last time you told me you would stop throwing temper tantrums. Her response to me was funny, yet true to so many circumstances in life. She said to me “Dude, that’s hard to manage”.

After uncontrollable laughter, I thought about what she said and she is absolutely right. We face many obstacles in life that are hard to manage.  From an employee benefits perspective this can be quite relevant, from health care reform to employee communication, to attracting and protecting the very best employees, and most business have to try to manage these things while still working to survive in the current economic environment. Dude, that’s hard to manage.
